I had the honor and pleasure of partaking in a model photo shoot Friday, July 11. It was my first experience shooting a model with several other photographers. It was quite the experience. I was able to watch other, more refined photographers work. They shared their tips, secrets, and passion with me. I learned quite a bit from them including how to use reflectors in low light settings in lieu of flash.
I also learned that I am absolutely not good at directing a single person at all. Trying to suggest poses is not my forte at all. Offering ideas on how to stand, where that hand should go, pop that hip, look sultry, pout, were all words that did not leave my mouth. I did, at one point, mention that her look was steamy and that seemed to help a bit. However, at the end of the day, I certainly could use another several sessions of shooting a person alone to improve upon that!
At the end of the night, I had a lot of pictures. I wasn’t sure if any of them were decent let alone good enough to share. Then I sat down. And I took a good look at them. Low and behold, I had some great shots! I was pleasantly surprised.
On a side note, Midlothian Mines Park is a fantastic location for a photo shoot. It offers so much – water, bridges, rocks, flowers, and everything in between (except sand). If you want to book a session with me, let’s shoot it there! You won’t be disappointed! As always, enjoy the photos from the shoot!
